The Process

Our Einkorn grain is grown chemical free and on farms with healthy soil. The farms our Einkorn comes from have been using the Back To Your Roots program for a minimum of three years.  What is the Back To Your Roots program you may ask.   It is a biological farming system  that improves soil and plant health, by using calcium, phosphorus, fish fertilizer, and compost tea.  The calcium helps to soften the soil and create a home for the biology to live and thrive in the soil so that they can bring minerals to the plants and feed the plant. Calcium also helps the plant with cell structure, cell division, is the transporter of many other minerals, it also is important in the immune system of the plant.  Phosphorus is the mineral that is needed to bring all the other minerals in to the plant. The fish fertilizer and compost tea work well together because the fish feeds the microbes in the tea so they can go to work in the soil and solubilize the mineral in the soil and feed it to the plant. Our farmers goal is to create a soil environment that is alive by encouraging living organisms to thrive, by doing this we create an ecosystem that the soil feeds the plant and the plant feeds the soil, which is the way it was designed to work.

The end result is a plant with more nutrients so that is can photosynthesize better creating a healthy plant that can resist disease and insects on its own eliminating the need for chemical use. This can all be measured with a refractometer by squeezing the plant and checking the brix (sugar level) of the plant while it is being grown, the higher the brix the better minerals and vitamins in the plant, the higher the brix the more resistant it becomes to disease and insects. The healthier the soil the better the microbes in the soil, the better the microbes the healthier the plant, the healthier the plant the better quality the grain the better the grain the better it is for our bodies.
